A new technology often redefines itself during the process of adoption by the general public. For example, the inventors of radio first thought its major application would be two-way communication. Though that's obviously one use, broadcast radio has come to define the medium.
Now we see recent research from none other than Harvard Business Publishing describing a similar evolution for Twitter, namely:
- About 10% of users generate over 90% of the content/messages
- The average Twitter account sends one message during its entire account life
- 25% of users never tweet
Certainly sounds like the basis of a "listening audience", doesn't it?
This research is now months old, well past its useful half-life for a service that is still experiencing major growth (1300% last year), but this does indicate that, though perhaps initially designed for two-way communication (like radio), broadcasting via Twitter may become its eventual future.

Re: Is Twitter the new Radio?
Nice site. Its too early to tell with Twitter - still a fad. Over hyped and under delivered so far.
