Man! I was just starting to get a grip on Web 2.0, when I think I ran smack into Web 2.5... or 3.0... or whatever the next gaming level is? Consider the following two sites, which take information to the next level of real time
www.glympse.com: Running late? Want people to know where you are or when you'll arrive, with continual updates? This smartphone app allows you to selectively let individuals track your GPS location for a specified period of time, giving them a Glympse into your personal whereabouts. I've not tried it yet (Droid in my future I believe :), but it looks like a tremendous combination of cellular, GPS, GIS and Internet technology.
REAL TIME POINT? It just became available for the iPhone a month ago! Now, I'm not a cutting-edge geek (not anymore, anyway) so how did I find it??
www.rankspeed.com: This site evidently continually scours the web for real-time information posts about any subject, from blogs to even Twitter posts, and then ranks them by any criteria you choose (from their site):
Users can search for any website category using tags and rank by any criteria: good, useful, easy, secure, etc. For each result a statistical analysis computes the percentage of twitterers / bloggers who have said it is good, easy, ...
REAL TIME POINT? This service just launched in September, two months ago!!!
So Bottom Line..? If the web is finally helping normal folks like me find cutting-edge resources like the ones above, that's definitely worth a major version 'up tick' on the information evolution scale.
